WELCOME TO KLADDER ARTSTUDIO!
While I have long enjoyed viewing other Artist's artwork, seldom do you get much information on what the Artist is trying to do with the pieces they are creating unless they are fortunate enough to be published, and then, the selection of their work is limited. Rarely, if ever, do you get to see their works in progress and their works that influence or are stepping stones to an exhibited piece of work.
In keeping with the aim of INSTUDIO, to open the studio to others and demystifying art and design, I will use this space to show finished works and works in progress, comment on them and hopefully engender comments from others, developing a continuing dialog about my art and being an artist.
PROFILE, is appropriately the first of my pieces to comment on. After I determined it was completed and I was viewing it hanging on the wall of my studio, I believed for myself for the first time, that I was an artist. It was one within a series that began as a charcoal drawing, The Rest, and includes Spin and lastly, Profile.
The latter two pieces evolved from the distorted features of the original drawing in an attempt to continually distort the original distortion, pulling it apart in Spin and reconstructing it in Profile, likened to an evolving of one's character. All 3 pieces were produced over printed architectural construction drawings.

Produced in 2006 while working to complete a certificate in Interior Architecture and Design at U.C. Berkeley Extension, it is interesting to me that PROFILE, like me at the time, engages architecture and art together, a relationship that continues to this day.
Sometime after I completed Profile, it occurred to me that this piece may actually be a self portrait: like me, engaged in architecture and art, and also like me, having only one eye. I have an extreme stigmatism in one eye, called a lazy eye, and I don't really use it. In a sense, I see the world through one good eye only. The nose....well, you decide for yourself.
