SAMUEL FLEMING LEWIS FURNITURE EDITIONS
From a very early age I have loved furniture as much as I love creating art. Furniture design is something that I've always noticed. I was raised with 1950's modern furniture as well as my mother's 1938 parquetry veneer bedroom suite. (I daily use one piece from that suite in my bedroom today.)
Since about the age of twelve I had a little art studio that I redecorated and refurnished several times throughout high school. It seems that good furniture has always followed me around. People always gave me great classic things to reuse, repurpose or reinvent. This still happens today.
When I studied interior design, there was a picture a of chair drawing in one of my design books which had its plan overlaid with it's elevation.
I aspired to draw furniture that way and now I do. My furniture drawings started out as built-in cabinets for corporate interior architecture they later evolved to drawings of antique reproductions and mid century style furniture for high end interior designers.
By the time I had worked in both commercial and residential interior design, I thought it was time for me to express my own vision of what furniture design should be.
My influences were many. As an artist I'm drawn to the exotic. As a designer, I'm drawn to luxury and craftsmanship. My designs reflect: Boxy 1940's Club Chairs, Old Movies, Tuck & Roll Details, African Stools, Industrial I-beams, Clock Faces, Shopping Carts, Telescopes, English Cricket Tables, Metalsmiths,1970's Contemporary Details, Camelback Curves, Classic Tuxedo Sofas, Frank Lloyd Wright's Geometry or Curves, Louis XVI Details, Large English Wing Chairs and Minimalism to name a few...
Four years ago I started drafting my own collection which I envisioned as classic, unusual, comfortable, timeless and easy to mix with anything. My ideal collectors are young at heart and want to have at least one great piece to keep forever. I drafted about 40 designs, four of which I've realized.
The Modern Wing, The I Beam Table in two sizes, And The La Salle Platform bed.
